Route and journey time to Gatwick
From Chessington we head south on the A243 past Malden Rushett to join the M25 at Junction 9. We follow the M25 east to Junction 7, then take the M23 south to Junction 9 for the airport. Typically it takes 35 to 45 minutes outside peak hours.
Heavy traffic around Junctions 8 and 7 can slow things on Friday afternoons and at the start of school holidays. When that happens, a driver may use the A217 through Reigate as an alternative. Your fixed fare stays the same either way.
North Terminal or South Terminal?
Gatwick has two terminals, linked by a free shuttle train. Your airline decides which one you use, and it is printed on your booking confirmation. Please check before you travel and tell us when you book. If you are not sure, we can drop you at the terminal your airline normally uses, but it is always best to confirm.
Gatwick also charges vehicles for using the terminal drop-off zones. Ask us whether your quote includes it.
Arriving back at Gatwick
On your way home, we track your flight so the driver knows exactly when you land. With meet and greet, your driver waits in the arrivals area with a name board and helps with your bags. Once you are in the car, you are usually home in Chessington within the hour.
If you land late at night, that is no problem. We run 24/7, and arrivals after midnight are common on holiday flights.
Family holidays from Gatwick
Gatwick is the main holiday airport for many Chessington families. With children, pushchairs and a week's luggage, a saloon fills up fast. A 6 seater taxi gives a family of four or five room for everyone and their bags, and child seats are available on request.
We can also combine trips. For example, we can drop your dog at kennels on the way using our pet friendly taxi, then continue to the airport.
Bag drop and check-in timing at Gatwick
Many Gatwick flights are with airlines that close bag drop well before departure. If you are checking in hold luggage, look at your airline's bag drop closing time as well as the departure time, and share both with us. We then plan a pickup that gets you to the terminal with room to spare. On busy summer Saturdays, security queues can also be long, which is another reason we suggest leaving a margin.
If you are travelling light with hand luggage only, you may not need as much time at the airport, but we still allow for traffic on the M25.
Gatwick from Epsom, Leatherhead and nearby
Towns south of Chessington are especially well placed for Gatwick. From Epsom, Leatherhead and Malden Rushett, you reach the M25 in minutes. From Tolworth or Surbiton, allow a little longer.
